ColorMatrix has been accredited with Investors
in People since 1998. The framework provided is now an integral
part of ColorMatrix's people management systems and includes in
depth induction programmes for all new starters, biannual
appraisals for all employees supported by a training plan,
continual monthly assessments for production based employees and a
360 review process for all senior mangers.
Employees have a vital input into each of these processes. They are
required to complete appraisal preparation in terms of suggesting
their own objectives, training plans and they are also invited to
grade themselves against the appraisal criteria. This provides a
greater sense of ownership and in turn results in self-development
which is beneficial for both the company and the employee.
ColorMatrix greatly supports further education and several
employees currently attend university or college on a part time
basis.
Production technicians currently have the opportunity to complete a
level two NVQ in Business Improvement Techniques. Whilst shift
leaders and team leaders are provided with fortnightly development
sessions and one to one coaching.
ColorMatrix has also launched an internal Graduate Development
Scheme, aimed at developing leaders - not managers but leaders. The
scheme is open to graduates and those employees with ambition to
succeed. The scheme is based around research by the Manufacturing
Foundation and the Leadership Trust Foundation, which identified
ten criteria which guide employees to be successful leaders. The
scheme involves employees undertaking internal and external
training courses and creating a portfolio over a period of two
years.
